A portrait gazing with large, fixed eyes on a flame-like orange ground. Here the artist breaks the classical grammar of the portrait: the two sides of the face seem to have passed through two different processes — the left in shadow, with grey and deep blue traces; the right in light, with warm gold tones. The two eyes are not mirror images; each represents a separate inner voice. The orange behind is not merely a ground but an energy rising from within the portrait — fire, anger or awakening. The 'Fitol 17' signature in the lower right is one of the artist's mature marks of that period. The 40 × 30 cm format keeps the work at an intimate distance suitable for a domestic setting; it chooses close witness over the wall-dominating claim of a large canvas.
