Signed Fitol 22. A few faces and bodies drawn in white lines on an almost entirely black ground. Here and there red and yellow accents, a table surface — perhaps an evening meal, perhaps a funeral. A dark psychological climate: Fitoloğlu's ageing artist has met the weight that comes with maturity. Alongside the artist's generally vividly-coloured output, this work is an opposite pole — almost a requiem. The texture, with the added density of oil, makes the figures appear to rise from the surface. A work that widens the emotional range of the collection, but speaks a different syllable of the same language.
